'Amistad' is a tender to borderline hardy, upright, branching, woody-based perennial, often grown as an annual, with ovate, hairy, toothed, aromatic, mid-green leaves and dark purple stems bearing whorled spikes of fragrant, two-lipped, dark purple flowers from mid summer into autumn.
Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in a sheltered, sunny site. Tolerates light, dappled shade, heat, and drought. Tender to borderline hardy so protect with a heavy winter mulch, treat as an annual, or grow in a container and overwinter indoors. Will reach a height of 1.2m and a spread of 1m after 2-5 years. Due to it's height looks spectacular planted at the back of the border.
